Born in Richmond , California , Tia Carroll grew up listening to so many different types of music. Artists like Stevie Wonder, Larry Graham, Ike & Tina Turner, The Beatles were some of her favorites.
Her first experience with a live band was with an old time Rock´n´roll, Yakety Yak. She immediately won the audience over and took off from there. Her performances with Eddie Money, The Coasters and Leon Hughes led her to open concerts for Gladys Knight, Ray Charles, Patti LaBelle and Tower of Power . Her voice stands out on numerous recordings including those of Sugar Pie DeSanto, EC Scott and Jimmy McCracklin. Tia was offered the chance to tour with the Bay Area Blues Society and Zakiya Hooker to Thailand for many charity concerts in aid to Tsunami victims.
Often compared to legendary voices such as Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin, Tia Carroll certainly has all the vocal power, style and life experiences that can stand comparison and a unique style that emerges on her self-titled album.
In 2007 she was awarded Female Blues singer of the year to West Coast Blues Hall of Fame and in 2008 received a award for 'Traditional Blues Woman' by Jus Blues Music Foundation in Memphis.
